Our federation is dedicated to championing the aspirations of chess players and stakeholders across the nation. With a rich history rooted in fostering the growth of chess, CKF serves as the central hub for all things chess-related in Kenya.

Aims and Objectives

The Federation is a non-political not for profit organization with the following objectives;

  1. Promote and Develop Chess: Advance chess within Kenya, aligning with international rules and standards.
  2. Coordinate Chess Activities: Organize chess activities at various levels - local, club, county, regional, national, and international.
  3. Team Selection for International Events: Select and prepare teams to represent Kenya in international chess tournaments and competitions.
  4. Support International Engagements: Provide assistance in coordinating and financing travel arrangements for Kenyan teams participating in international events.
  5. Facilitate International Exchange: Promote, oversee, and potentially finance visits by foreign teams or players to Kenya to enhance the chess community's development.
  6. Sanction Rated Chess Events: Authorize and oversee all officially rated chess events at different levels to maintain standards and integrity.
  7. Registration of Entities and Players: Maintain a registry of county branches, clubs, and players affiliated with Chess Kenya Federation.
  8. National Rating System: Manage and update a national strength rating list of chess players in Kenya.
  9. Branch Oversight: Monitor and ensure that all branch activities adhere to the federation's constitution and guidelines.
  10. Property Management: Acquire, rent, invest in, use, or dispose of property as needed to fulfill the federation's objectives.
  11. Foster Friendly Relations: Cultivate positive relationships among members, officials, players, and supporters of the federation to promote camaraderie within the chess community.
  12. Enforcement of Regulations: Take necessary steps to enforce the federation's constitution, by-laws, and international chess regulations as stipulated by F.I.D.E. (Fédération Internationale des Échecs).
  13. Prevent Discrimination: Ensure that there is no discrimination based on factors such as race, religion, ethnicity, gender, or political affiliation among members, players, and clubs.
  14. Historical Preservation: Collaborate with relevant bodies to document and preserve historical records of chess in Kenya, contributing to the cultural and sporting heritage of the nation.
  15. Compliance with Laws: Ensure adherence to the Constitution of Kenya and the Sports Act, operating within the legal framework governing sports organizations in the country.

Milestones

Over the years, CK has achieved numerous milestones, thanks to the dedication and commitment of our elected office bearers.

Key Accomplishments:

  1. Compliance with Sports Act of 2013: Chess Kenya completed the registration process with the Registrar of Sports, ensuring full compliance with relevant regulations.
  2. Digital Presence:The revival of the Chess Kenya website and establishment of a post office box to enhance communication and accessibility for members and stakeholders.
  3. Revival of National Tournaments: CK successfully reinstated traditional national tournaments, including the Kenya Open, Kenya National Youth Chess Championship, National League, and National Chess Championship, enriching the chess calendar.
  4. Enhanced Prize Funds:The prize funds for all national chess events were increased, with a minimum first prize of Ksh. 100,000, motivating players and fostering competition.
  5. Corporate Participation: The National Chess League witnessed an increase in the number of corporate teams, enriching the competitive landscape and promoting chess within the corporate sector.
  6. Increased visibility on main stream media: online and live stream of all national and international events hosted by Chess Kenya. This have assisted in professional valuation of Publicity value gained by our sponsors.
  7. Secured Sponsorships: Chess Kenya secured sponsorships totaling over 20 million in 2018, facilitating the organization of various activities and initiatives.
  8. Conflict Resolution:successfully eradicated conflicts within chess circles and established an amicable forum for resolving disputes, fostering a harmonious environment within the chess community.>
  9. International Exposure: Both youth and senior players experienced increased international exposure, participating in various tournaments and competitions abroad.
  10. Certified Personnel: The number of internationally certified personnel increased significantly from thirty-four (34) to one hundred and fifty-two (152), enriching the pool of skilled individuals supporting the chess ecosystem.
  11. International Registered Players: The number of international registered players grew from two hundred and forty-five (245) to four hundred and fifty-two (452), reflecting the expanding interest and participation in chess at the international level.
  12. Hosting Premier Events: CK successfully hosted continental premier events, including the Africa Youth Chess Championship, Zone 4.2 Under 16 Chess Championship, and the First Africa Chess Confederation Board Meeting after the election.
