Transforming Lives Through Chess

Since 2021, the Refugee Chess Program has empowered thousands of youth in Kakuma and Kalobeyei. What began as a simple tool for recreation has grown into a transformative initiative fostering peace, education, and opportunity across diverse communities.

The program helps youth gain life skills, build confidence, stay in school, and access local and international exposure through structured chess training and tournaments.

Success Stories

Faith – Angelina Jolie Girls School:

“Before joining chess, I was shy and unsure of my abilities. Now I lead our Girls’ Chess Club and even teach younger girls. I believe I can represent our community at international level.”

Peter Diing – Project Leader:

“Chess has brought structure and purpose to many youth here. I’ve seen boys and girls move from idle corners of the camp to standing on national stages, confident and focused.”
