Dear Members
I hope this message finds you well.
Chess Kenya has encountered several challenges in its efforts to send children for international events. To highlight a few of these issues:
1. Failure to disclose a child’s health conditions that may be triggered by changes in weather.
2. Last-minute claims for refunds when payments have already been made to organizers, or flights have been booked and paid for.
3. Parents threatening the federation when certain conditions set by the host are not met, or when the child’s health situation is misrepresented during an international event.
4. Accidental or deliberate damage to expensive hotel property by children, with the cost being passed to the federation.
5. Failure of parents to secure necessary travel documents when the child has qualified for an international event.
6. Misconduct by children, such as theft of roommate’s items – we have resolved many cases involving lost pocket money.
7. In the age of data protection, consent is required from parents for the use of their child’s images by event organizers and Chess Kenya.
8. Violations of visa regulations.
In light of these challenges, Chess Kenya has completed the review of the detailed parental consent and indemnity document, which has been thoroughly reviewed by our lawyer. This document will now serve as the standard consent form to be signed for all international events going forward.
We believe this document will help in addressing many of the issues we have encountered and ensure smoother participation in international events.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Best regards,
Chess Kenya
