Chess Kenya Federation proudly invites all eligible junior players to the Kenya National Junior Chess Championship 2025 (Under 20). This prestigious, FIDE-rated event will crown the next national champions in both the Open and Girls categories.

 

The tournament offers a direct pathway to the pinnacle of Kenyan chess, as the winners in each section will earn a coveted slot in the final phase of the Kenya National Chess Championship 2025.

 

Event Details:

 

· Dates: Saturday, 27th - Sunday, 28th September 2025

· Venue: The Luke Hotel, Nairobi

· Format: 6-Round Swiss System

· Time Control: 90 minutes per player, per round.

 

Eligibility & Entry:

This is an invitational tournament.Eligible players must have been born on or after 1st January 2005. Participation is granted to:

 

· Free Entry: Reigning National Champions (U20, Youth, Cadets, Schools) and the Defending Champions, Hawi Kaloki & Zuri Kaloki.

· Entry Fee (Ksh. 1,500):

  · Players who scored a minimum of 6 points at the Kenya National Youth Chess Championship 2025.

  · Players who scored a minimum of 7 points at the Kenya National Schools Chess Championship 2025.

  · All other qualified players born on or after January 1, 2005.

 

Key Tournament Rules:

 

· FIDE Rated: All games will be played under standard FIDE laws.

· Anti-Cheating: Strictly no electronic devices are allowed in the playing hall. Possession will lead to an immediate loss and further disciplinary action.

· Draw Rules: Draws by agreement are forbidden before Black's 30th move.

· Appeals: An Appeals Committee will be formed. A refundable fee of Ksh. 1,500 applies.

 

Schedule:

 

· Saturday, 27th Sept: Opening Ceremony, Rounds 1, 2, & 3.

· Sunday, 28th Sept: Rounds 4, 5, & 6, followed by the Closing Ceremony.

 

Registration:

 

· Deadline: Thursday, 25th September 2025, by 6:00 PM.

· Method: All players must register online. Late registrations will not be accepted.

Players are responsible for their own accommodation and travel arrangements.
