  • ๐ŸŽ“ Kenyan school-going students (including recent graduates and homeschoolers)

  • ๐Ÿงพ Must have participated in official regional qualifiers with 2+ points

  • ๐Ÿ† 2024 National Champions are automatically eligible

  • ๐ŸŒ Foreign residents may play (but can't win national title)

  • ๐Ÿ“… Age categories (as of Jan 1, 2025):

    • ๐Ÿ‘ถ U8 (Born ≥ Jan 1, 2017)

    • ๐Ÿ‘ง U10 | ๐Ÿ‘ฆ U12 | ๐Ÿ‘ง U14 | ๐Ÿ‘ฆ U16 | ๐Ÿ‘ง U18


๐Ÿ—“๏ธ Schedule Highlights

  • ๐Ÿ›ฌ Arrival: Friday, 1st August

  • ๐Ÿง‘‍โš–๏ธ Tech Meeting & Opening Ceremony: Saturday, 2nd August

  • ๐ŸŽฏ Rounds 1–8: 2nd – 4th August

  • ๐Ÿ… Award Ceremony: Monday, 4th August at 5:00 PM

  • ๐Ÿš Departures: Tuesday, 5th August


๐Ÿงฉ Game Format

  • ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ 8 rounds, FIDE Rules

  • โณ 90 mins flat per player

  • โŒ› 30 min default time

  • ๐Ÿซ Players from same school won’t face off in the final round unless necessary


๐Ÿ  Accommodation

  • ๐Ÿ›๏ธ On-campus full board: Ksh. 800/day

  • ๐Ÿ˜๏ธ Private stay allowed with amenities fee of Ksh. 500

  • ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿซ Students must be accompanied by a parent or teacher of same gender


๐Ÿ‘• Dress Code

  • ๐ŸŽ“ School uniform is mandatory

  • ๐Ÿ‘• Homeschoolers must request special Chess Kenya T-shirt

  • โŒ Players without uniform risk default loss


๐Ÿ† Prizes & Recognition

  • ๐Ÿฅ‡ Top 3 per category: Trophies, Medals & Merit Certificates

  • ๐ŸŽ–๏ธ All participants: Certificate of Participation

  • ๐ŸŒ Top 11 per category qualify for FIDE-rated playoffs (8–11 August)

  • ๐Ÿ›ซ Winners may represent Kenya at:

    • ๐ŸŒ World Youth (Albania, Oct)

    • ๐ŸŒ World Cadets (Kazakhstan, Sep)

    • ๐ŸŒ Africa Youth (Zimbabwe, Dec)


๐Ÿซ School Awards

  • ๐Ÿ… Best performing Primary, Junior Secondary & Secondary (Boys/Girls)

  • ๐Ÿ“Š Based on total points from top 20 finishes


โš–๏ธ Rules & Conduct

  • ๐Ÿ“ Move recording is compulsory

  • ๐Ÿ“ต No electronic devices or watches allowed

  • ๐Ÿ‘€ Random anti-cheating inspections

  • ๐Ÿšท Spectators & players need arbiter’s permission to enter/exit play hall

  • โš ๏ธ Strict adherence to FIDE laws


๐Ÿ“ธ Photography Policy

  • ๐Ÿ“ท By attending, you consent to photos for CKF promotion

  • โœ‰๏ธ Opt-out by writing to Chess Kenya before the event


โš ๏ธ Appeals & Protests

  • โš–๏ธ Appeals Committee formed by CKF

  • ๐Ÿงพ Protest fee: Ksh. 2,000 (refundable if successful)

  • ๐Ÿง‍โ™‚๏ธ Only parent/teacher/rep can file age-related protest (fee: Ksh. 1,000)
